Face to Face

Face to Face 30″x15″ Acrylic on canvas Available at The Surrey Art Gallery

I have always loved the northern climates, especially after several years working and living in various northern regions. It was only a matter of time before I began to fall in love with the polar bear. I have steadily become more and more interested in this solitary hunter.

The polar bear is born on land but spends most of its life drifting on ice, hunting seals. With global warming affecting ice formations, it is getting more and more difficult for these bears to survive. Polar bear populations are on the decline in Northeastern Canada. The fate of this bear isn’t known, but I hope something is done soon to help curb its decline.

In creating this piece, I wanted to portray this bear with all its power and grace, face to face.
